8 Tips to Look Your Best in Front of the Camera | Boston Brand Photographer
Being a Boston brand photographer, I hear all the time that people don’t like the way they look on camera. If you think you are not photogenic, it’s not you! Despite how unphotogenic you think you are, it’s a lie you've convinced yourself is true after years of unflattering camera phone snapshots, made worse with poor lighting and horrendous angles.
I've got 8 tips for your brand photoshoot that will have you looking (and feeling!) like a confident part-time model in no time.
1. Bring your Chin Forward and Down
When we laugh or smile for photos we naturally tend to tuck our chin in, or lift it up.
You'll get the most flattering look when you push your chin toward the camera, and tilt it down slightly. (Try it out in the mirror and you'll see an immediate difference!)
2. Smize
Smiling with your eyes! While Tyra Banks coined the term on America’s Next Top Model, you don’t have to be a supermodel to nail the smize. The difference between your serious face and the dreaded RBF is as simple as showing a little softness around your eyes.
3. Wipe that Perma-Smile Off your Face
When we smile on command for more than a few seconds at a time, we get that forced, "Ok, I'm smiling, just take the damn picture" look. Instead, save the smile for when your photographer cues you to smile, and try to reset it or change your expression every few seconds. The strain of holding onto an expression for too long (or as I call it, perma-smile) can make it feel and look less authentic.
